Iceland

Hot Baths

A major item in Iceland is the natural hot water springs.
The natural hot water is so abundant that it is pumped from miles away into the cities and homes.
Homes run their heat year round, in part because the summer really is not hot, but more to keep the flow going.

Outdoor hot baths are also popular and we took part.

As you can see, this pool is pretty big.

But not to worry, a bar is included (on the right).

Looking out across the pool, the power plant is in the background -
pumping hot water out of the ground.

In the background you will see construction cranes.
Work was underway to expand the pool, hotel, restaurant,
and the whole complex.

Volcanic Fields

Iceland is a very barren land.  The volcanoes have wiped out all natural vegetation.
There are no forests on Iceland.  The only trees are those planted by man kind.
We hired a private tour guide and went exploring into the lava fields.
And who did we find, but our cousins Dave and Sue Souerwine!
