Sienna...and surrounds

Our first outing to this part of Italy was at Christmas time 2005 with family.

According to legend, Sienna was founded in the first century BC,
by the son of Remus (one of the reputed founders of Rome).
This midieval town is a walled city - surrounded by a wall.
Below is the "Il Campo" main square of the city.
The square is divided into 9 sectors.
These "pie slices" represent the original "Council of Nine" that governed the city.





Here in Il Campo is the Palazzo Pubblico - aka the town hall.
Quite magnificent building.
